Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Review (WARNING SPOILERS)

Best Thing: Optimus Prime Transformers Revenge of the Fallen movie image optimus prime

Worst Thing: It’s hard to say the WORST thing when there are many things fighting for that honor but in short, Mudflap and Skids.

Score: 2.2/10

Transformers 2 looked pretty good in trailers. There was going to be more robots meaning more action, so in short perfect for a good summer blockbuster. However… some thing went wrong in the process. First let’s highlight the good.

Optimus finally shows why he is a Prime. Finally he takes out not 1, BUT 2 swords to fight. That was something that they definitely got right in the movie, because it was a major complain in part 1. Showing why Optimus is the leader of the Autobots was essential to the movie, because in part 1, he was getting thrown around by Megatron here and there, so it’s only fair that in part 2, Optimus gets his revenge. Bumblebee also has a pretty good scene, and well….thats about it. That all the good in the movie. Unless of course the Linkin Park song at the end counts.

Now on to the complaints. First of all, Mudflap and Skids are 2 autobots that should have never existed. PERIOD. They are useless in the movie, clumsy and always fighting with each other. Michael Bay said that he put them in there for the kids. Really Mr. Bay? For the kids? So you want kids to copy the curses these 2 stooge transformers say every other second? Pathetic. Also, one of them has a golden tooth. A GOLDEN TOOTH. For crying out loud, what were they thinking??!?!

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
Directed by: Michael Bay.

Second, the running time, the movie was way to long. it runs 150 mins. The movie’s plot would have fit easily in 90 mins. This is almost double the time. I was constantly moving around my seat anxiously thinking, just when is this film going to end. Kinda like the same way I felt during Pirates 3 (World’s End).

Another failure, Sam’s (Shia LaBeouf) parents. I understand they were there for laughs but come on, how much screen time do they have to take. They beat both Optimus and Bumble Bee in screen time!

Final failure I’m going to point out, well… the fact that Sam is immune again in this movie from getting hurt or dying in this movie in circumstances that ANYONE else, would have at least, have gotten some body damage. I mean look, in the beginning when the tiny transformers are in his parents house, they are shooting bullets and small missiles RIGHT IN FRONT of him, yet this guy doesn’t even get scratched. Then in that scene where he is pinned down by a Decepticon, he gets flung around like a toy yet he gets up and running again almost instantly. I dont get it, this guy must be a transformer in disguise because it makes no sense. Maybe he is , just like that other girl turned out to be, (what was up with that, wouldn’t the Decepticons want to pose as humans instead of vehicules to capture Sam? Maybe pose as his parents? but no…cars are cooler) and Bay is waiting for Transformers 6 when everyone gets bored with the robots and then unleashes the GUESS WHAT SAM IS A TRANSFORMER plot twist on us.

To sum it up, yeah it had explosions and actions, but even those were getting boring. How are they supposed to TOP the action scenes in Transformers 3, when this one has all the DECEPTICONS (i would guess all of them since Megatron says “Decepticons Attack!” and a bunch fall from the sky. Unless there were some who were cowards) attacking at once. Popcorn film to the fullest extend.

Brazil vs Egypt Fifa Confederations Cup South Africa

We all know the World Cup is 358 days away, but some matches have started to see who qualifies and such. Now this video that I saw, says its from a Cup played in South Africa, so it doesn’t count as qualifiers is my conclusion. However, if this Egyptian team is the same one going to the World Cup… then things will be interesting to say the least. Check it out. Props to KaKa!

Up Review (Spoiler Free)

Best Thing: It’s very complicated to select just one thing that stands opixaruput from this  masterpiece of a movie, but if I had to pick one, it would be the the storytelling.

Worst Thing: Again picking out a flaw is hard here when everything is so perfect…but if I’m obligated to then I would say Dug (the talking dog) is the weakest element here.

Score: A Very well deserved 9.7/10

(I don't want to spoil anything in this masterpiece so I will refrain from giving away plot points)

Pixar’s latest masterpiece centers around the story of an old man who lifts his house with balloons and makes it to a jungle of sorts in South America. That’s the information that you get from the trailer, that and the fact that a fat little kid goes with him. That’s it, sounds uninteresting right? I mean to be honest, i was not expecting this movie to be AMAZING, but my faith in Pixar and their art of telling stories made me go watch the film. And let me tell ya, WHAT a film to watch.

From the start the movie is visually perfect. The Colors that Pixar use are amazing, and now that its combined with digital 3-d, the colors jump out even more, as to make the textures more realistic. But this movie could have been drawn, and still, the impact would have been the same. The storytelling is what wins this movie. You know Pixar gets it right, when they create an emotion link between you, and the characters in under 10 mins. I guarantee that only the coldest of people will not cry at least ONCE, throughout this film. Of course UP is also very funny. As the trailer has pointed out, most of it comes from Russell, the little boy who accompanies Mr. Fredricksen in this journey. However personally I found that Dug, the talking dog that befriends this odd couple, to be a bit annoying, and if there was one flaw then I would have to point at him. But thankfully he’s more of a third wheel in this movie so he is disney-pixar-up-movie-poster-1 not featured much, to my relief (and possibly yours).

The music in this movie also touches the heart. It’s amazing how simple piano keys can bring so much emotion with their sound. The beginning intro that has this gentle music, will make you stop for a moment and just be captivated by what’s on screen. Then when the music comes again later in the film, you’ll be forced to relate to the character on screen in a way that is very rare in movies, let alone an animated film.

UP is a journey of life. The moral of story is that life IS the greatest adventure. It will make you reflect on the small things that make up life, those moments that we take for granted sometimes, those moments that we feel are just strings attaching to main beads in our lives, when in reality THEY are the main beads in life. When everything passes, we remember the small details the most. All this from a movie targeted towards children. Amazing. Well I dont want to give more details, because frankly I think it will spoil such a film. Watch it, without distractions, disconnect for a moment, and just let Pixar lift you…UP.

P.S.- bring tissues!
