Rename all Your Photos FAST and for FREE

Everyone has a digital camera now a days, and that means a mess when it comes to exporting the photos to your computer. Usually you get a folder full of photos that have the same name for example Sony models usually come out looking like this

DSC02745
DSC02746
DSC02748
DSC02749

etc.....

So this starts turning into a problem especially if you want to be able to find photos quickly based on filename alone. Or if you want to better organize your photos here's the easy way how.

First of all download this program called ReNamer. Here's the link.

Once you you install it, open it, and follow these steps.

1- We need to make a rule, or in other ways how the program is going to rename the files. In this example we're going to rename all the files to "Florida Trip" followed by a number sequence. (Florida Trip 0001, Florida Trip 0002, so on...) You of course can change "Florida Trip" to whatever it is you need.  CLICK where it says "Click Here To Add A Rule"  the following menu should appear

2-Now Click on DELETE- since first we will want to Delete the the file name all the way to the extension (.jpg) so that we can make room for our new file name. Once you click Delete you should get several options. Under "From" it should stay as position: 1  , but just change "Until" and click on till end. Here's a pic to use as reference. After it loks like the pic click on ADD RULE.

3- Ok 1 rule down, 2 more to go. Now we'll add the new file name, in this case "Florida  Trip"
Click on the plus sign to ADD a new rule. It menu as the 1st pic should open again, its in "INSERT" just where we need it.  Where it says "What:", is where you would add the new file name. So I'll be putting "Florida Trip" in that space, MAKE SURE TO ADD AN EXTRA SPACE AFTER TRIP, OR AFTER WHATEVER FILE NAME YOU WILL BE PUTTING (so in reality it should be "Florida Trip " with the extra space after the "p"). Now a little further down it says "Where" click on prefix. Here's a picture reference. Click Add Rule when done.

4. -Now for the last time click on the plus Sign to "Add a new rule". This time click on "Serialize". Where it says "Where:" click on "suffix". And then on the bottom checkmark "Pad to length" and put a 4 next to it. Here's another picture reference. Click ADD RULE.

5- Now we're done with our rules. Now to select the files or folder you want to rename. Click on either "Add Files" or "Add Folders" right under File. Find the files that you want and they will load on the bottom half of the window. Now click on PREVIEW so that you can see how they will be renamed. Here's what mine would look like.

If your happy with the results click on "RENAME" and you're done!

6 - Last but not least click on "Preset" on top. And then "Save As" so that you can save the set of rules you just created so that you can use it to rename other photos in the future. All you would have to do, is simple click on "Preset" and then "Load" and you should see your saved Rules. Of course you would have to edit the 2nd rule with a different file name to suit your needs. Just click click edit, and change the "What:" section and you'll be done.

Hope this quick tutorial helps you out.

Wired Magazine

Wired is an excellent magazine with all sorts of information about various topics.

The latest one that i received is talking about the Truth about Cancer. Very interesting topic considering that most of us know, or has known of someone with cancer. The key is early detection, because if the cancer is detected in its first phase, the individual has a high chance of surviving. Yet if its late the survival rate drops more then 50%.

The latests one mentions the GPS craze. Haven't read it yet, but looks interesting. I was going to provide a link for a free subscription to WIRED, but i think the offer expired so here's a link to another magazine

Heres a link to Motor Trend, for all those car fans out there. Just fill out THIS FORM, with your information and in 5 weeks around there you should start getting your first issue. These things work cause thats how i got my Wired Magazine. So click here.

SUPERBOWL TIME!

So its that time again, the NFL season is coming to an end. And after some crazy games, and suprises (matt cassel actually being a BEAST), we reached a point where only 1 team will be victorious.

Its either the Steelers with their amazing Defense, or the Cardinals with their amazing Offense. Pretty interesting match-up to say the least. So who's going to win?

My money, (not literally) is on the Steelers. Their defense is just too much. If they score, and then shut down the Cardinals, it should be over. I expect the Cardinals to score early, and if they continue to do so, without turing the ball over, then the Steelers could definately be in trouble. BUT, if the Cardinals have the lead, and let that get to their heads, then they'll mess up and the Steelers defense will make them pay for it.

I think Steelers are going to win. I could be wrong and Cardinals Offense may just be too much to handle. But let me just mention one last point.... the best offense.. is a rock solid DEFENSE.  Thats why the Steelers have the edge.  OH yeah and they have number 43....

Best FREE Firewall

I've tried out many solutions as a backup to the windows firewall, and I have found that Comodo Firewall is the best one.

This program is not only FREE, but also packs a real time virus scanner, so if you're in need of both, then, there you go.

The only recommendation i would suggest is to only use the firewall, and to turn off the DEFESEN+SECURITY as this could get annoying (too secure). Just install everything, and then once the program is on the bottom in the task bar, right-click on the shield icon.

Select Defense+Security Level - then pick Disabled and there you have it. As a firewall it is flawless, asking you whether or not to permit a program to go online. This is very helpful because many viruses actually try to connect online in other to leak your information (bank accounts, passwords, conversations, etc.) or to allow someone else to take over your computer, in other words to hijack it.

Almost everyone after Windows XP has the windows default firewall, but still it wouldn't be a bad idea to have COMODO as a back up. So go ahead and download it

Google Chrome Slowing Down Your Pc?

If like many, you wanted to try out Googles new web browser, CHROME, then you propably noticed that it could hog lots of your PCs ram. This happens because Chrome opens up a new instance of itself, for every tab that you have open. Chrome does this because if you have a problem in which one of the tabs stops responding then you won't have to close the rest of your open tabs. Sounds nice, but this could also seriously cripple your system.

So here's a solution, to open all your tabs under 1 instance of CHROME.

Go to your Start menu, then GOOGLE CHROME
Right-Click on Google Chrome, and select PROPERTIES
In the target box at the end after the QUOTATION MARKS (") add -single-string

and thats it!!!

Look at this pic if the above instructions are confusing

So with this in mind, why not try out Google Chrome? Just click here - CHROME

Photosynth

Photosynth is a technology developed by Microsoft that allows users like us, to get different photos we took and put them together like a map to create a 3d illusion.

Kinda hard to explain it, unless you see it yourself. CNN recently did something interesting with it, by putting together the photos they took for Obamas Inaguration. Check it out

Ultimate Free Ad-Aware

Ad-Aware made a name for themselves 10 years ago as one of the first softwares that users have come to rely on to keep their PCs clean. Or in the case of many, to clean them once virus, malware, trojans, etc. have taken over their pc.

This new 10 year Anniversary Edition of Ad-Aware is the best yet.

Only 18% of CPU usage during scan - compared to others, and also the 2008 edition of Ad-Aware that use about 60%

Scans about 36mb per second!! Thats QUICK, almost 4 times as fast as AVG.

Def, download this program and keep it somewhere safe, cause you never know when something unfortunate happens to your pc. Of course its the free edition, but this one has EVERYTHING you'll need       DOWNLOAD AD-AWARE

You know those times that you want to erase or move a file, or maybe eject a USb drive, yet windows wont let you, and you are completely clueless why? Well aparentely, gone are those days, we at least if you have Windows 7

Windows 7 will actually let you know why the specific file  can't be erased or closed. Pretty neat trick. Simple stuff like that is what we need to make the user interface more userfriendly.

Online Timer

I'm always practing speeches every now and then so it was essential for me to find a good timer to use.

Most timers are just the basic digits (5:34) and thats good and all, but to look down at that every now and can really distract you.

So in my search for a timer that can tell you, how long you have left, without actually "telling" you instead just signalling you, i found this

This is by far the best online timer i've seen! You can customize it to meet your criteria.
Lets say you need to give a 10 min speech. You set everything up and when it gets to 8 mins it will flash GREEN.

At the 9min mark - yellow

And at the 10 min mark - red.

colors that we all understand, and so make it easy for you to write down on your sheet of paper how far along you are time-wise without actually looking at the timer.
Try it out and you'll see.

Can you do 100 push ups non stop??

Many of you are propably thinking "100!! Are you insane, i can barely do like 5 without dying!!"

Well what if i told you theres a great way to help you get to that goal of 100 consecutive pushups?

You can find it here...

This site will help you greatly!! When i first started off I could do about 20, but I had to struggle to get there. NOW, i can do about 35 non stop. Not a big difference you would say, but hey, at least its a difference right!! My arms feel stronger, and they even look bigger (well maybe at least to me lolol). But yeah give it a try, after all, how many pushups you do is an indicator of how fit you are, and in this present time where people are having weight problems, it doesn't hurt to keep yourself in check right?

Aim, Yahoo, Windows Live Messenger Slowing You Down

Now a days, we all have to use some sort of program to chat and stay in touch with out friends.
But there are 2 problems...

1- Each of these instant messaging clients take up valuable pc power, which really slows us down.
Some of these really hog ram which make our pcs run slowwwww.

2- Our friends are spread across different clients, some have yahoo, others aim..etc. So we have to sometimes end up using more than one program to say in touch with all of them.

The solution is meebo.

Simply go to www.meebo.com and sign in from there. Its inside you're web browser so it doesn't take up that much memory. You can even create a meebo account that will sign you in to ALL your IM clients at the same time.

Meebo also saves you're conversations for you just in case you want to read something later on. Real nice. So go ahead and give it a try...

Load MP3s fast!!

Sometimes you just download a new song, and you just really want to give it a hear...so you double click on it and it takes foreverrrrrrrr(well maybe not forever but pretty close lol) for itunes to open up the song. Have you had that happen to you??

Well fear no more, just use foobar to open the song and you'll be hearing it in under 4 seconds.
Its extremely fast, and very simple to use. foobar can even be custimized any many different ways.

heres the link for those interested:http://www.foobar2000.org/?page=Download

by the way, once you do download, make sure that you change the default programs for handling mp3s to foobar, so that when you do click on a mp3 foobar opens it.

3dMark06

3dmark06 is a program that tests out your computers graphical power. Let's say that you're updating drivers for your graphics card, and you want to see if it was worth your time up changing from 169.04 to 169.09.

What you would do is simply run 3dmark06. It consists of a couple of tests. It takes about 5-10 mins, and at the end it will give you a rating. So what you can do is simply compare ratings and PRESTO you'll see if it was worth it.

Here's the link for those interested http://www.futuremark.com/benchmarks/3dmark06/download/

the file is about 580mb and it takes up about 1 gig of hd once installed.
