Up Review (Spoiler Free)

Best Thing: It’s very complicated to select just one thing that stands opixaruput from this  masterpiece of a movie, but if I had to pick one, it would be the the storytelling.

Worst Thing: Again picking out a flaw is hard here when everything is so perfect…but if I’m obligated to then I would say Dug (the talking dog) is the weakest element here.

Score: A Very well deserved 9.7/10

(I don't want to spoil anything in this masterpiece so I will refrain from giving away plot points)

Pixar’s latest masterpiece centers around the story of an old man who lifts his house with balloons and makes it to a jungle of sorts in South America. That’s the information that you get from the trailer, that and the fact that a fat little kid goes with him. That’s it, sounds uninteresting right? I mean to be honest, i was not expecting this movie to be AMAZING, but my faith in Pixar and their art of telling stories made me go watch the film. And let me tell ya, WHAT a film to watch.

From the start the movie is visually perfect. The Colors that Pixar use are amazing, and now that its combined with digital 3-d, the colors jump out even more, as to make the textures more realistic. But this movie could have been drawn, and still, the impact would have been the same. The storytelling is what wins this movie. You know Pixar gets it right, when they create an emotion link between you, and the characters in under 10 mins. I guarantee that only the coldest of people will not cry at least ONCE, throughout this film. Of course UP is also very funny. As the trailer has pointed out, most of it comes from Russell, the little boy who accompanies Mr. Fredricksen in this journey. However personally I found that Dug, the talking dog that befriends this odd couple, to be a bit annoying, and if there was one flaw then I would have to point at him. But thankfully he’s more of a third wheel in this movie so he is disney-pixar-up-movie-poster-1 not featured much, to my relief (and possibly yours).

The music in this movie also touches the heart. It’s amazing how simple piano keys can bring so much emotion with their sound. The beginning intro that has this gentle music, will make you stop for a moment and just be captivated by what’s on screen. Then when the music comes again later in the film, you’ll be forced to relate to the character on screen in a way that is very rare in movies, let alone an animated film.

UP is a journey of life. The moral of story is that life IS the greatest adventure. It will make you reflect on the small things that make up life, those moments that we take for granted sometimes, those moments that we feel are just strings attaching to main beads in our lives, when in reality THEY are the main beads in life. When everything passes, we remember the small details the most. All this from a movie targeted towards children. Amazing. Well I dont want to give more details, because frankly I think it will spoil such a film. Watch it, without distractions, disconnect for a moment, and just let Pixar lift you…UP.

P.S.- bring tissues!
